The Amairgin the Gael branch recently celebrated its third Hunting of the Wren session at the Black Griffin Inn in Lisvane, Cardiff. This year's event was hailed as the most successful yet, attracting a full house and the largest gathering of musicians and singers the branch has seen to date.

The atmosphere was electric as the community came together for a memorable evening of music to celebrate the Hunting of the Wren. Branch Chair David Murphy set the stage for the event with an insightful speech, elaborating on the cultural significance of the Hunting of the Wren tradition. He highlighted how this unique celebration serves as a meaningful link to our Irish heritage, emphasising the shared cultural roots that unite our communities. His remarks added depth to the evening, reminding everyone of the importance of preserving these cultural traditions.

In preparation, Marianne McAleer [Musician] attend weekly classes on Tuesday to teach all the students and members 'The Wren in the Furze'.

Throughout the evening, attendees were treated to an expansive and diverse repertoire of traditional Irish music and song, all woven around the theme of the Wren. The impressive ensemble featured 25 talented musicians and singers from the branch, showcasing their skill. Some members followed custom and dressed as strawmen [wren boys] to bring prosperity to the community.

Among the performers was founding member Willie Cowan, whose experience and passion for traditional music shone through. Additionally, special guest musicians joined the group, adding further depth and variety to the performances, making the night even more unforgettable.

The remarkable success of this year's event highlights the growing interest in traditional music within the community. It also underscores the importance of cultural events like these in bringing people together to celebrate shared heritage. The Amairgin the Gael branch is looking forward to many more such memorable gatherings where music and tradition continue to foster unity and joy.
